How to Fix the Most Annoying Features of Your New HDTV
Ok so lately i have noticed that I have poor picture quality when watching anything. It is really noticeable with backgrounds that are dark. I notice smearing or black articats and it looks fuzzy around certain parts. Its not my tv because if i watch any other source on my tv everything is crystal clear.
Has anyone come across this issue before? And before i go through all my troubleshooting steps that i have done, let me start by saying i am a former verizon employee and currently a systems engineer so troubleshooting is what i do. Have the same issue on all tvs and all receives vms or client. What are my options? Can i get Verizon out to replace my ONT? I am really getting frustrated and will think about switching to anoter service or cancelling my TV service altogether soon.
Go to Solution. I am having the same problem and have read several other forums with the same issue. I have seen numerous posts that the fix was replacing the new quantum gear with the older equipment and the picture quality went back to being crystal clear. If I run Netflix or any other source the picture is crystal clear as well so it's only the Verizon connection that has the issue. Thanks for the response. Must be something in these model VMS then. I agree with you and definitely won't be going back to the old equipment.
I just can't believe the new quantum equipment hasn't been addressed yet with all the complaints I've seen. I don't think replacing my brand new ONT is going to fix the issue but I'm running out of options. I've tried going into the settings on the VMS and changed the video output to i and p and still no difference.
You can try that if you haven't already as I did see one post where it fixed it bc it is natively set to p by default. If you loved how the TV looked in the store but now find the picture off-putting — perhaps looking like an episode of Days of Our Lives — then you've fallen victim to the dreaded "soap-opera effect. Open Expert Settings. Like the slider controls for adjusting color and brightness, the settings for turning off Auto Motion Plus are found in the Picture Settings menu, under Expert Settings.
Go to the Auto Motion Plus menu.Bmw mechatronics solenoids
To turn off the soap-opera effect, disable or adjust the Auto Motion Plus feature. This is set to Auto by default, so either switch it to Off to disable it entirely or adjust the blur and judder reduction to your liking using the sliders in the menu below. Dial down the Blur and Blur Reduction. Blur Reduction is designed to cut down on the smearing that happens when fast-moving objects move across the screen at low frame rates, boosting the frame rate by estimating what image would come in between two frames of content, and adding the interstitial frames.
This is the biggest offender in the soap-opera effect, so pull back on this slider first. Judder Reduction is the other offender. It's designed to reduce the choppiness that can result from showing Hz content such as a cinema film on displays with higher frame rates. That introduces a slight stutter, which Judder Reduction aims to correct. As with Blur Reduction, if you're still seeing the soap-opera effect, dial this down or turn it off.
The last trick up TV makers' sleeves for "fixing" your picture is to manipulate the backlight flicker. With this feature turned on, you'll greatly reduce the overall brightness of the display by blinking it on and off — a technique meant to simulate higher frame rates.Ht monaro
When in doubt, this one is safe to disable. Tom's Guide.

Let me explain, the picture looks very pixelated and blurry on some scenes.
The color is not sharp at all. I tried taking a few pictures on my iphone for demonstration but I am not sure if they will do it justice.
I have obviously tried messing with the settings in the TV itself but nothing seems to really help. Also, the blacks are blurry and not very sharp as well.Picture Settings for Samsung UE40JU6400 4K TV
After doing some googling, it looked like an issue some people had called color blur or something like that but I can't remember the term. I will list my settings below. I am using HDMI cables btw. Should I try taking this tv back or would there be any way to make it a better quality? Thanks in advance! Nov 21, 0 19, We respect your privacy. In fact, everything looks a bit fake and unnatural, surely not what you anticipated when you plunked down your cash for a state-of-the-art television.
Before you race back down to your local TV barn to demand a refund, take a deep breath—you may be a victim of your TV's out-of-box settings rather than a conniving salesman looking to unload a lackluster piece of technology. Many new TVs come with a bevy of optional display features that are turned on by default, and a few could be robbing you and your set of the best picture possible. Below are three features we recommend you shut off—or at least turn way down—when you get the TV home.
We've been telling people to shut off these features for years. This is just one of several interesting TV developments for So far, LG and Vizio have signed on to make TVs with this feature, and we'll be watching to see whether more brands come onboard.
We'll be testing some TVs in that have the feature to see how well it performs. I don't want to see any noise on my TV! Noise—sometimes called "snow" due to the appearance of black and white dots in the picture—was a bigger issue with older analog TVs, and especially with lower-definition analog signals. And, yes, when TVs upconvert video signals from lesser-quality sources you may still see some noise. But for the most part, you're getting much cleaner, higher-quality digital source content these days, whether its over-the-air digital broadcasts, high-def signals from cable and satellite TV services, streaming service signals, or pristine video from Blu-ray discs.
Samsung 4k TV - Screen Judder/Pixely blurs with fast motion.
The problem with engaging noise reduction is that it comes at the expense of detail and fine texture—these tend to get smoothed over when the feature is active. The picture can get soft-looking. Turn off noise reduction and you'll have more picture detail and a more natural-looking image. What it really does is artificially boost fine detail and texture, while accentuating the edges of images in the picture.Stay blessed always meaning in malayalam
At first glance this might give the impression of greater detail, but what it's actually doing is masking fine detail—and oversharpened images can add a halo around objects. So turn it way down or completely off. Note: Some models have a zero setting in the center of the control, so lowering it beyond that point might actually soften the image.
One issue with LCD-based TVs, in particular, is that the image can blur during fast-moving scenes, such as in action movies or sports. TV manufacturers use various technologies to reduce motion blur, including repeating frames or inserting black frames into the video signal. Many companies tie these efforts to another technology, called motion smoothing or judder reduction.
Movies have a slightly stuttering effect, called judder, especially when the camera pans across a scene. This appearance comes about because movies and a lot of prime-time TV shows are shot at a relatively slow 24 frames per second, or 24Hz. By contrast, video is typically shot at 60Hz.
That's why sports, reality and game shows, and soap operas have smoother motion than 24Hz films. Motion smoothing attempts to reduce judder by increasing the TV's frame rate via a process called frame or motion interpolation.
This involves the TV analyzing adjacent video frames, making an educated guess as to what the in-between frames would look like if they'd been captured, and then inserting those new frames into the video stream. But when activated, motion smoothing can make even classic, gritty films look like video, something referred to as "the soap opera effect.Forums Recent Rules My Activity. Hey there! However this then enabled judder with slow pan shots on Planet Earth like drone shots on the side of mountains. Is there a way to fix this, or is this just the quality of this pound 4K TV? The other question being if so. Or to fix issues like this are we talking the very high end near grand like 4K Samsungs?
I have heard it could be because of the fact the MU is 60hz. Am I on the right track with this TV? I can't see anything to suggest the TV is 60Hz. That would be unusual for a TV intended to be sold and used in the UK. Every spec I've seen says it is 50Hz though it may well be able to run at other rates depending on the source. Go into the picture settings and turn off anything that says Auto or Dynamic and see what effect they have.

If it is only one scene on one disc it may just be like that depending on how the scene was shot.Trusted Reviews may earn an affiliate commission when you purchase through links on our site. At best, that means people might get a little confused choosing TVs. At worst, it makes them easier to dupe. There is nothing that says a screen must display certain range of brightness and darkness, or certain number of colours, in order to use an HDR stamp on the box. You need to offer x pixels to qualify for proper cinematic 4K standards. There are no such box-ticking exercises available for high dynamic range. To qualify, a TV must jump through certain hoops. The idea is that if you see the UHD Premium logo, that TV has gone through certain checks to make sure it meets certain parameters.
Firstly, there are TVs that meet the standards, only to fall short in other, unspecified areas. A TV may reach the required brightness of 1, nits think 1, candles but how long can it sustain that intensity?
Sony is one such candidate. Follow the UHD Premium road and you may miss out on some great options. Related: Best 4K TVs. Which leads me to the next issue: price. If we take the UHD Premium standards as the height of TV performance, then surely we must recognise the step-down alternatives.
Will the UHD Premium system shift with the advent of new criteria? One such obstacle that comes to mind is the broadcasting of high dynamic range video. The majority of high dynamic range video is currently being streamed, but eventually — sooner rather than later — we will get terrestrial HDR.
There is will behind it, and already there are significant efforts made to make sure that we can broadcast HDR. It, or something like it, is going to be the future of broadcasting.Moon phases in order
I reckon the UHD Premium logo, despite the good intentions behind it, is doomed. No — there must be a new system for labelling high dynamic range products.
Related: What is Hybrid Log-Gamma? I had a lightbulb moment. Well, I was changing lightbulbs, and I had a thought.
This is a system that recognises there are various grades of performance, and it would be perfect for something as variable as high dynamic range. HDR, as a concept, as well as the wider TV industry, would benefit from such a transparent graded system that incorporates the affordable as well as the cutting edge.
